In 1978, journalists Kai Hermann and Horst Rieck met Christiane Felscherinow outside a courthouse in Hamburg. Originally investigating the growing phenomenon of homeless youth in Germany, they planned to interview the 15-year-old for just two hours. Instead, captivated by her story, they spent the next two months interviewing her four to five days a week.
